ISPA: U.S. bedding producers see mattress units fall 6.7% in third quarter

U. S. bedding producers experienced a tough third quarter, withmattress shipments falling 2.3% in dollars and 6.7% in units, a new report says.

U.S.-produced stationary foundations were down 12% in dollars in the third quarter and 18.4% in units in that quarter, according to the Bedding Market Quarterly just issued by the International Sleep Products Assn.

In the first nine months of the year, the dollar value of U.S.-produced mattresses is down 3%, while the dollar value of U.S.-produced stationary foundations is down 14%, the ISPA report says.

In that same time period, U.S. mattress units are down 9.5%, while the unit value of U.S.-produced stationary foundations is down 21.4%, ISPA said.
